General Information

Public health actors are increasingly called upon to inform the policy-making process because public policies are a lever for action that affects the determinants of health.

This online training offers a structured approach to analyzing public policies. This approach is based on an analytical framework that reflects a public health perspective, while at the same time integrating other concerns of policy makers.

This course becomes accessible to participants 24/7 upon registration. It takes from 6 to 8 hours to complete the course (45% reading the material in the modules, 55% exercises). It is made of four self-paced modules allowing you to progress at your own pace. 

Once you will have completed the training course, you can ask for a certificate of completion.

Course Overview

Target Audience

The course is intended for professionals and managers active in the public health sector and in non-governmental organizations, or for any person interested in analyzing healthy public policies.

Learning Objectives

This online course will enable participants to make use of a framework for analyzing public policies in order to inform policy makers in the context of healthy public policy development.
On completing this online training, you will be able to:

• Recognize situations in which the analytical framework would be useful;
• Describe the analytical framework;
• Decide how to conduct the analysis given the circumstances in which it is being produced.

This online training is based on a briefing note published by the NCCHPP, but it goes much further in presenting enriched content (additional explanations and examples, resources to go futher) and 24 interactive exercises with detailed answer keys. These exercises, dealing with various current public health topics will enable you to integrate the material more effectively, thus enabling you to make use of the framework yourself.

This training course was designed to be taken individually. However, if you and your colleagues registered for the course more or less concurrently, you could take the opportunity to discuss what you learned along with them, as well as look for possible links with your team's or organization's projects.
