Public Policy 101: Accessible summaries of approaches to address public policy processes.

.		We are currently developing a series of fact sheets to introduce different public policy frameworks. Their purpose is to provide theoretical models to help readers better understand the various factors that influence policy choices and decisions, so as to better navigate the policy sector. With these documents, we hope to provide public health actors with different perspectives on how to address public policies in such a way that this knowledge can be put to use in practice. Publication We recently published a practical guide for public policy analysis. It offers a structured process based on an analytical framework with a public health perspective, while integrating other major policy-making concerns. This guide is meant for public health actors who are called upon to work on healthy public policies and who are looking for tools to help them meet the information needs of policy makers. Workshop We also offered a workshop entitled "Assessing political acceptability through an analysis of the actors involved" during the 2012 National Collaborating Centres for Public Health Summer Institute. In this workshop, François Gagnon presented a framework for analyzing the different actors involved in a policy field. This framework allowed participants to examine the ways in which actors define problems and the solutions they opt for. Click here to view the presentation. François Gagnon also gave a presentation during a training session for the members of the Table de concertation nationale en santé publique (Québec's public health roundtable), which brought together various public health directors from Québec. The workshop, entitled "Health Inequalities: for a strategic analysis of governmentality", was designed to provide an analytical framework for assessing the political viability of different interventions for reducing health inequalities. We have already produced some publications which lay the groundwork by way of a conceptual orientation in this area.
